Confessions of a (Slightly Less) Rebellious Writer
LIFE STORIES

I went to boarding school as a teen. A time of itchy uniforms and questionable cafeteria food, my yearning for freedom was as strong as the desire for a decent pizza.
Much as my classmates and I hated being boarders, there was one thing we loved - midnight feasts! Yes. We’d buy and stash our favourite treats throughout the term. On the last night we’d sneak up the creaky ancient stairs to the attic. Wrapped in blankets and lighting the space with smuggled torches we’d devour our goodies and share outrageous stories.
Fast forward to the present day, and my rebellious streak has, shall we say, matured. Gone are the attic raids, but the urge for a little after-hours indulgence? That remains.
Instead of smuggling chocolate bars, I now sneak into the forbidden land of... phone notes. As my head hits the pillow, my brain is flooded with story and article ideas. Sleep beckons, but the pull of creativity is too strong. I clutch my phone, furtively scribbling notes in the darkness.
I know, I know. Sleep is important. The brain needs its beauty rest but the truth is, some of my best ideas come at these witching hours. It’s like the world falls silent, and my imagination takes flight.
Plus, let’s be honest, isn’t there a certain thrill to this forbidden writing session? It’s like being a literary outlaw, scribbling under the cover of darkness.
Am I on my own here or do you also find yourself drawn to the allure of the late-night writing session?
If you’re the sensible type (unlike yours truly), do share your tips for taming the midnight muse and getting that much-needed shut-eye. After all, even rebels need their rest.
